A "gayborhood"--or gay village--is a geographical area with generally recognized boundaries, inhabited or frequented by many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. Beyond housing, Gayborhoods often contain a number of gay-oriented establishments, such as gay bars and pubs, nightclubs, bathhouses, restaurants, boutiques, bookstores, etc.

Economic blight, also called urban decay, is a social and economic process in which a previously functioning city falls into decrepitude. It may feature deindustrialization, depopulation, abandoned buildings or infrastructure, and general economic stagnation.

Private cities are a rising trend in 21st-century urban development. They are mixed-use developments where people live, work and play that are presided over by a CEO rather than a mayor—a company rather than a government. Private cities enjoy sovereign control over their social and economic policies.
